In today’s fast-paced and demanding world of education, teacher stress, health, and overall well-being have become increasingly important topics of conversation. The stress, overwhelm, exhaustion, and feeling of defeat are becoming the norm for many teachers, but I want differently for you, teacher friend. I don’t want you to settle for burnout as part of your reality. That’s why I’ve got something a little extra special coming your way…
Welcome to Episode 183 of the Burned-In Teacher Podcast. I am so excited about today's episode! It's going to be a little different than most of the episodes on the podcast because I’m going to share with you what is coming up this summer on the podcast.
I'm recording this episode at the end of April and it is a little over 70 degrees outside, my husband is mowing the lawn, and summer is in the air. Summer is coming so fast; this year has just flown by. I am always so excited for summer - I'm ready to get things done and also have some time for relaxation, some rejuvenation, and just to kind of do whatever I want. But you know how I feel about the balance between “conventional self-care” and “radical self-care”. This summer on the Burned-In Teacher Podcast, we are going to be working on our radical self-care together in a little different way than we ever have before.
Last summer on the podcast, I laid out the entire Burned-In Process. But what I've never done is go through my book Hacking Teacher Burnout with you. So here at Team Burned-In Teacher, we thought it'd be fun to do a book study with you all together as one big Burned-In family! In this episode, I'm going to lay out some things to look forward to, and some things that you'll need to do in order to prepare so you are ready for the first episode of this summer book study series that will release on June 3.
One big reason that we believe so much in doing this Hacking Teacher Burnout Book Study Summer Series, is because we believe in the power of community. We believe in the power of the “top five”, and if you've read the book you know exactly what I'm talking about! So what we want to do is bring everybody together around the book Hacking Teacher Burnout and go through it together as a community.
And to help us go through the Hacking Teacher Burnout, we are going to use the brand new Hacking Teacher Burnout Book Study Guide that's available on TpT. We're doing this because I want to give you space for what may be going on inside of your brain out onto paper. You've heard me say this before - if you get it out from behind your eyeballs and out in front of your eyeballs, things look different because you see things in a new light and with a new perspective. And that's what we want to do with the Hacking Teacher Burnout Book Study Guide. We want you to not only read the book along with us but also reflect along with us and converse with us inside of the Burned-In Teacher Podcast Facebook community.
In the podcast episode that releases on June 3, we are going to start with the introduction. Every week after that - all the way through August 5th - we are going to go chapter by chapter through the entire book. I believe in not just “shelf help” - reading a book and then putting it on the shelf without taking any action - which is definitely not what we're all about here at Burned-In Teacher! While we are reading the book together, I want you to have time to reflect and take some action, and to dream, and visualize how you are I'm going to make the 2023 - 2024 school year, better than the previous year, better than the previous 10 years, heck, maybe even better than your entire teaching career! And the best part is we get to do this together.
In this book study series, not only am I going to go chapter by chapter through the book Hacking Teacher Burnout, we are going to be creating posts, questions, and conversations inside of the Burned-In Teacher Podcast Facebook Community. It's going to give you the opportunity to connect with other teachers over the power of our mindset, our perspective, and our belief that if we choose to do things differently, as well as find yourself good old burnout buddy! And what better time to do things differently and try new things, and practice what it will look like to go into your new school year with a renewed sense of self and a new vision for what you want your life to look like, and who you want to be. I could just go on forever!
Number one, we need you to make sure that you are a member of the Burned-In Teacher Podcast Facebook Community. CLICK HERE to request to join! We've been in there for years and there are 1000s of teachers having amazing conversations and asking great questions, and we want you to be a part of this community!
Number two, I want you to get the book - you have to have the book to do the reading to take the action, right?
And if you already have the book and you've already read it once, there’s no harm in reading it again! I've often said the more you go through the Burned-In Process the better because each time you dive into the content, you realize how far you've come. So whether you're new around here, or you've read the book already, you are invited to the Hacking Teacher Burnout Book Study Series that's happening this summer! We’d love to get as many teachers involved as possible, so invite a friend to work through the book together.
Number 3, we need you to grab the Hacking Teacher Burnout Book Study Guide. The power of this summer book study series is going to be you reflecting, you visualizing, you dreaming, you planning, and you beginning to build that discipline into your daily routine to create the life you want. The Hacking Teacher Burnout Book Study Guide gives you the space you need - in an organized fashion - to get all of these thoughts and dreams and plans out onto paper in one nice, tidy space.
Number 4, before June 3 is read the introduction in the book.
That's it!
